The following classroom lessons are intended to help educators integrate the propaganda materials featured in Where Monsters Are Born into their classrooms. Lesson 1: “Making Martyrs”

Objective: To identify the way in which the Italian Far Right’s dead are constructed as “martyrs,” and to understand the various implications of this particular framing.

Objective: To compare and contrast the collective memory strategies surrounding war dead and fallen “comrades” of Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany, and the contemporary Far Right.

Objective: To recognize the ways in which the contemporary Italian Far Right stokes a sense of youthful rebellion and its connection to rhetorical and physical violence.
