Anche a noi non piacciono i neri

(We, Too, Don't Like the Blacks[hirts])

This poster was produced by the Roman newspaper The Republic to promote the publication's anti-fascist journalism. Founded in 1976 by the left-leaning Express Publishing Group – the publisher of today's news and culture magazine, The ExpressThe Republic has made a name for itself in opposing Italy's neo-fascist community, covering the Years of Lead (1968-82) through more contemporary struggles with far-right street politics.

Featuring a photograph of a group of Italian neo-fascists waving red, black, and white flags emblazoned with the far-right Celtic Cross symbol, the poster's caption reads: "Anche a noi non piacciono i neri" (We Too Don't Like the Black[shirt]s). Below the caption, the poster invites its viewers to "Scopri la nuova Repubblica" (Discover the new Republic.)

As is the case with the various other anti-fascist materials which appeared alongside the more widely-distributed far-right posters, handbills, and other materials in Rome between 2018 and the following year, The Republic's poster captures the subtle, but nonetheless meaningful, ways in which anti-fascists in Rome have sought to combat the spread of neo-fascist ideas and values via adversarial, anti-fascist journalism.
