Although the majority of this collection's materials were produced by known far-right groupsdue largely to these organizations' names being printed on the posters, stickers, and handbills in questiona handful were disseminated by individuals and/or groups whose identities remain unknown or, in some cases, somewhat obscured. A significant number of the materials in our "Martyrs" theme, for instance, were not marked with any particular group or political party's name, due largely to the inter-organizational practice of commemorating the right-wing victims of left-wing violence in Italy, largely during the Years of Lead (1968-82). The materials commemorating the "founding fathers" of post-World War II Italy's neo-fascist movement, toowhich can be viewed in our "Patriarchs" themewere almost always disseminated without any identifying names, phrases, or organizational symbols. In addition to these, there were a number of miscellaneous materials which were not explicitly associated with any specific organization but, rather, serve as ephemeral instances of the significant quantity of neo-fascist materials in Rome's streets and piazze. Thus, in the interest of gathering these unknown materials in one place, we have created this "Unaffiliated or Unknown" category.
